The General Authority for Statistics in Saudi Arabia has released data showcasing the performance of the Kingdom’s marine fisheries sector in 2022. The total catch from marine fisheries reached 64,264 metric tons, reflecting a 1.4% increase compared to the previous year.
A significant portion of this catch originated from the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea, contributing 62.9% and 37.1%, respectively. Among the various regions, the Eastern Region emerged as the leader, with a catch of 40,417 metric tons. Following closely, the Jazan region secured the second spot with 8,199 metric tons.
Shrimp, a highly sought-after seafood delicacy, dominated the marine fisheries landscape, accounting for the highest percentage of the total catch at 18.3%. The quantity of shrimp caught during 2022 amounted to 11,756 metric tons.
