Egypt has witnessed a significant decline in its imports over the period between January and October 2023. The total imports from countries worldwide amounted to USD 68.3 billion during this timeframe, reflecting a notable decrease of USD 12.9 billion or 16% compared to the corresponding months in the previous year, which stood at USD 81.3 billion.
Impact on Food Commodities
The total value of food commodity imports during the mentioned period was USD 9.8 billion, down from USD 10.7 billion in the same months of the previous year. This decline amounted to USD 920.8 million, highlighting a shift in the country’s food import dynamics.
Frozen Shrimp Imports Take a Hit
Among the various food commodities, frozen shrimp imports in Egypt have notably suffered a setback. The figures reveal a decline from USD 136.9 million in the period between January and October of the previous year to USD 89.6 million in the same months of 2023. This equates to a substantial decrease of USD 47.3 million or 34.6%.
