Bangladesh’s shrimp export industry has encountered a significant downturn, attributed to a decrease in consumption and demand from international buyers, primarily due to the inclusion of harmful jelly. Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder expressed concerns regarding this issue during a recent address at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Dhaka.
Quality Concerns Impacting Export
Majumder highlighted that the incorporation of detrimental jelly in shrimp products has led to a decline in export volume. This issue has raised alarms within the industry as it has impacted the country’s ability to meet the quality standards demanded by foreign markets.
Acknowledging the importance of maintaining product standards, the minister stressed the necessity of producing export-grade goods. He emphasized that ensuring quality and adhering to standards are pivotal to regain the trust and confidence of international buyers.
Call for Collective Action
Majumder called upon all stakeholders to collaborate in ensuring the safety and quality of food products. He underscored the progress made in addressing food shortages within the country and reiterated the commitment to ensuring the availability of safe food for all citizens.
