In recent times, residents of Western Russia have been feeling the pinch as seafood prices, particularly for shrimp, have surged dramatically. Reports indicate that the cost of shrimp has skyrocketed to a staggering two thousand rubles (USD 21.8), a significant leap from the previous price of one thousand rubles.
Shrimp Prices on the Rise
The pricing dynamics are particularly notable for whiteleg shrimp, which now command prices ranging from 700 to 1,500 rubles per kilogram (USD 7.6 to USD 16.3). However, the final cost is contingent upon various factors such as the manufacturer and the size of the product. Larger shrimp varieties come with a heftier price tag, with fresh frozen king prawns sized at 20/30 fetching as much as 1,500 rubles.
The surge in shrimp prices is not an isolated phenomenon but is indicative of broader shifts within the seafood market. Other popular items such as shelled mussels have seen a notable price hike, now marked at 400 rubles (USD 4.4), reflecting an increase of 100 rubles. Similarly, squid prices have also seen an uptick, ranging from 500 to 600 rubles per kilogram (USD 5.5 to USD 6.5).
