In Punjab, Pakistan, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has unveiled plans for the launch of the Shrimp Aquaculture in the Saline and Brackish Areas of Punjab project. The initiative aims to kickstart shrimp farming on uncultivable lands characterized by saline and brackish waters.

Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, during a recent meeting, underscored the significance of this project in creating jobs and income prospects. Chairing the meeting aimed at charting the course for promoting fish trading in the province, Minister Aurangzeb emphasized the pivotal role of new projects in boosting fish and shrimp farming activities.
The Fisheries Department has been tasked with spearheading efforts to bolster fish trading in Punjab. Minister Aurangzeb has directed the department to devise a comprehensive plan aimed at amplifying fish farming and shrimp production across the province.
Exploring Models and Collaborations
During the meeting, various models, timelines, and the feasibility of new projects were deliberated upon. Additionally, discussions encompassed the exploration of different methodologies, taking into account the pros and cons. Directives have been issued to collect data on successful fish farming practices from neighboring countries such as Singapore and the UAE.
Minister Aurangzeb reiterated the commitment of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to drive progress across all sectors in Punjab. She emphasized the importance of engaging with experts from both international and domestic arenas to optimize production in the fisheries sector.
Harnessing International Expertise
Projects aimed at enhancing shrimp farming are aligned with the directives of the Chief Minister. Minister Aurangzeb emphasized the utilization of the best international technologies in this endeavor. Furthermore, consultations and technical assistance will be sought from friendly countries known for their expertise in achieving higher yields in aquaculture.
