Two days following a significant drug seizure, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken action against Indian shrimp exporter Sandhya Aqua Exports. The investigation comes in the wake of a container containing over 25,000 kg of inactive dry yeast allegedly laced with narcotics, seized at the Visakhapatnam Container Terminal earlier this week.
Targeted Raids and Inquiries
The CBI conducted raids at Sandhya Aqua Exports, located at Moolapeta, as part of their ongoing investigation into the drug seizure incident. The container in question bore the name of Sandhya Aqua Exports, with its head office based in Lawson’s Bay, Visakhapatnam.
During the day-long operation, CBI officials, accompanied by forensic experts, meticulously searched the factory premises. They engaged with various personnel, including staff members, technical experts, and workers, gathering crucial insights into the company’s operations. Additionally, samples were collected at the Visakhapatnam Laboratory for further analysis.
Forensic Examination and Legal Ramifications
Sources close to the investigation revealed that the collected samples would undergo rigorous testing at the laboratory. Based on the findings, the CBI intends to pursue legal action, potentially filing new cases and apprehending individuals involved in the import and distribution of the drugs-laced consignment.
In response to queries from reporters, company officials stated that the imported inactive dried yeast, allegedly containing narcotics, was intended for use as aqua feed in shrimp farms. Notably, they emphasized that this was the first instance of such import from Brazil.
