Carrefour, one of the leading retailers in France, has issued a recall of its Shellfish products across the country. The recall pertains specifically to the “Semi-peeled cooked shrimp tails” under the Carrefour Classic brand due to the presence of nitrofuran, a chemical contaminant banned in the European Union.
Contamination Alert
Nitrofuran, commonly employed as an antibiotic or antimicrobial, has been detected in the affected shrimp products. This discovery has prompted immediate action from Carrefour to ensure consumer safety and regulatory compliance.
The recall affects frozen shrimp sold between November 22, 2022, and March 29, 2024, with a minimum durability date set for June 1. The identified product is packaged in 300g sachets and bears the barcode: 3560070782789.
Consumer Advisory
Consumers who have purchased Carrefour Classic shrimp within the specified timeframe are urged not to consume the product. Instead, they are advised to return it to the point of sale for a refund. The return period extends until April 30 to facilitate hassle-free returns.
