In Bahrain, the Acting Chief Prosecutor of Ministries and Public Bodies has announced that the Second Lower Criminal Court has delivered its verdict in a case concerning the sale of fresh shrimps during a banned period.
Verdict and Penalty
The court found the suspect guilty of trading fresh, unprocessed shrimp during the shrimping ban period. As a consequence, the individual has been levied a fine of BHD 1,000 (equivalent to approximately USD 2,650).
The case came to light when the Public Prosecution received a report from the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security. The report highlighted that the Fishing Ports Directorate had detected a citizen engaged in selling shrimp through the WhatsApp social media platform. The suspect was actively advertising shrimp for sale during the ban season.
Legal Proceedings
Following the report, authorities traced the identity of the individual using the phone and subsequently referred the case to court. The suspect underwent trial proceedings, which culminated in the issuance of the aforementioned verdict.
