Asda, a prominent retail chain with over 1,000 stores across the United Kingdom, has issued an urgent warning regarding one of its products, deeming it “unsafe to eat.” The product in question is the Asda Succulent Cooked and Peeled King Prawns, priced at GBP 4.95 (USD 6.15) per pack.
Labelling Error Poses Risk of Food Poisoning
The retailer has identified a labelling error on the packaging of these king prawns, which presents an incorrect use-by date. This error poses a significant risk of food poisoning to consumers.
The Food Standards Agency, a regulatory body overseen by the government, has echoed Asda’s warning. They have stated that Asda is recalling the affected product and have urged consumers not to consume it.
Instructions for Consumers
Point of sale notices will be prominently displayed in all retail stores selling the Asda Succulent Cooked and Peeled King Prawns. Consumers who have purchased these prawns are advised not to eat them. Instead, they should return the product to the store of purchase for a full refund.
The affected prawns are sold in 210g packs with the batch code L66000. The incorrect “use-by” date listed on the packaging is 21 December 2024. However, the correct date should be 21 April 2024. Consumers are reminded not to consume the product past the correct use-by date.
Apology from Asda
Asda has issued a statement expressing regret for any inconvenience caused by this incident. They are actively addressing the situation and working to ensure the safety of their consumers.
