South Korea recently authorized the import of ten shrimp-based products from Brazil. What’s more, this authorization comes without the requirement for an International Health Certificate (CSI), streamlining the import process for Brazilian exporters.
Registration Requirements
Brazilian exporters can now send an array of shrimp products to South Korea, catering to various consumer preferences. These products include Ebi, ideal for sushi preparations, shrimp with head and shell intact, breaded varieties like Torpedo, and even seasoned options mixed with pieces of fish.
To capitalize on this newfound opportunity, Brazilian establishments intending to export shrimp to South Korea must register with the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Registration can be initiated either by the South Korean importer or the Brazilian exporter, providing flexibility in the process.
Expanding Agribusiness Opportunities
This development marks the second significant achievement for Brazilian agribusiness in South Korea within a short span. Just last month, South Korea authorized the import of animal by-products for animal feed, further strengthening bilateral trade ties.
South Korea’s importance as a trade partner for Brazilian agricultural products is underscored by its position as the eighth-largest destination for Brazilian exports in 2023, with total exports amounting to USD 3.37 billion. Notably, in the first three months of the current year alone, Brazilian sales of agricultural products to the South Korean market reached an impressive USD 646 million.
Milestones in International Expansion
The authorization of shrimp imports into South Korea marks the 106th commercial expansion for Brazilian agribusiness in 50 countries since the beginning of last year. This milestone highlights Brazil’s continued efforts to diversify its export markets and strengthen its position as a key player in the global agricultural trade landscape.
