Enifer, a Finnish biotech startup, has recently published findings from a study conducted by AquaBioTech Group, investigating the use of Enifer’s PEKILO Aqua mycoprotein in shrimp feed. The study, carried out at Innovia, Enifer’s aquaculture R&D facility, revealed notable improvements in shrimp health and growth attributed to the inclusion of PEKILO Aqua in their diets.
Enhanced Survival Rates and Health
According to the study results, shrimp fed with PEKILO Aqua exhibited a significant increase in survival rates, rising from 74% to 85%. This improvement indicates potential benefits for shrimp health and resilience when supplemented with mycoprotein.
The study addresses the current dependence of the shrimp feed industry on fishmeal, a resource facing challenges due to global marine fish stock depletion. By replacing fishmeal with PEKILO Aqua, the study observed higher crude protein content in shrimp diets, suggesting a viable alternative to conventional feed sources.
Immune System Support
Enifer’s PEKILO Aqua formulation includes immune-enhancing compounds such as beta-glucan and nucleotides. These elements are intended to bolster shrimp immunity, potentially reducing susceptibility to diseases prevalent in shrimp aquaculture.
