According to statistics from the Ecuadorian Federation of Exporters (Fedexpor), Ecuador’s trade with Europe has seen significant growth across various sectors.
Key Export Products
The top five products exported from Ecuador to the European Union are:
- Shrimp
- Banana and Plantain
- Canned Tuna
- Cocoa Beans
- Minerals and Metals
These categories represent 82% of Ecuador’s total non-oil exports to Europe. Notably, shrimp holds a prominent position among the exported goods, showcasing the importance of Ecuador’s seafood industry on the international stage.
Favorable Trade Balance
In 2023, Ecuador achieved a favorable trade balance of USD 1.691 billion from its non-oil exports to Europe. The country earned USD 4.27 billion from exports, exceeding the USD 2.579 billion spent on imports. This balance reflects a 12% increase compared to the previous year.
Ecuador exports more than 700 different products to the European market, facilitated by over 1,400 companies. In addition to the main export categories, other notable goods include flowers, fishing products, crustaceans, canned fruits and vegetables, coffee, and various fruits.
Rising Imports
While exports surged, Ecuador also experienced a 2% growth in non-oil imports from the European Union in 2023. The primary imported products include mechanical machines and devices, pharmaceuticals, vehicles and their parts, surgical devices, and electrical machines and devices. These products collectively account for 55% of Ecuador’s non-oil imports from Europe.
