Greek police have seized more than 200 kg of cocaine in the harbor city of Piraeus. The illegal substance was discovered concealed within a refrigerated container filled with shrimp, originating from a South American country.
Collaboration with the DEA
The Greek police operation was initiated following a crucial tip-off from the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The DEA’s intelligence was instrumental in guiding Greek investigators to the shipment, leading to the successful seizure.
Four men, aged between 36 and 64, were apprehended in connection with the smuggling operation. Authorities have revealed that, prior to their arrest, the gang had already profited approximately EUR 5 million (USD 5.4 million) from their illicit activities.
Valuation and Significance of the Seizure
Experts estimate the market value of the confiscated cocaine at around EUR 500,000. The interception of such a large quantity of cocaine not only disrupts the operations of the drug gang but also serves as a deterrent to other trafficking networks.
