Omani Bioproducts Co. has reached a significant milestone in the construction of its RO 37 million (USD 96.13 million) animal feed and aquafeed factory at the Khazaen Economic City in Muscat, Oman. The company has completed 25% of the construction, marking a step towards the production of alternative grass feed and aquafeed.
New Products and Technologies
The factory will produce 48,000 tons of alternative grass feed made from agricultural residues enriched with dates and 15,000 tons of aquafeed, including shrimp and fish feed. At full capacity, the plant aims to manufacture 100,000 tons of grass feed and 300,000 tons of aquafeed. The project utilizes modern technologies to ensure the sustainability of resources and efficiency of production processes.
The factory is designed to meet the growing demand for red meat, dairy products, and aquaculture in Oman, which has traditionally relied heavily on imports. The company plans to use locally available raw materials to meet this demand, with some of the manufactured feed set for export.
Ecological Impact
The project has a positive ecological impact as it aims to efficiently use agricultural residues instead of burning them or burying them in landfills. The grass feed is a new solution for the local market, reducing waste and promoting sustainability.
The factory will be launched in three phases, with no concrete timeframe provided for the second and third phases. The future of these phases depends on the needs of both the local market and global export market.
Government Support
Government support and interest in developing the agricultural sector contribute to improving the quality of feed and expanding the local production base. Omani Bioproducts Co. was established in partnership between Nakheel Oman Development Co. and Omani Mills Group, prominent local food manufacturers.
