The Argentinian seafood industry is experiencing a surge in exports, with a significant increase in squid sales driving the growth. According to recent figures, squid exports have seen a 75% jump, while fillet sales have risen by 19%. However, shrimp tail sales have taken a hit, declining by 26% compared to last year.
Squid has emerged as the star performer in the Argentinian seafood market, with a 75% increase in sales at higher prices. This surge has contributed to the overall growth of the seafood industry, which has seen an 18.2% increase in exports valued at USD 827 million.
Shrimp Sales Struggle
In contrast, shrimp exports have taken a hit, with a decline of 26% in shrimp tail sales. Despite this decline, whole shrimp exports have still managed to increase by 14% compared to last year, with a total value of USD 75 million. The average price of whole shrimp has increased by just 0.2% according to official figures and 0.8% according to CAPECA, bringing the value per ton to USD 5,390 and USD 5,739 respectively.
Europe remains the main export market for Argentinian seafood, accounting for 48% of total exports, followed by Asia at 25%, and Latin America at 10%. Hake fillet exports have also seen growth, increasing by 18% in volume and 19% in revenue. Argentinian clam exports have reached a 121,436 tons, with a total value of USD 306 million, marking an increase of 75% in volume and 17% in value compared to the same period last year.
