Vietnam’s seafood industry is poised for a period of accelerated growth, driven by increased demand from key markets. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, seafood exports have already reached over USD 4.4 billion in the first six months of 2024, a 7% increase from the same period last year.
Shrimp Exports Lead the Way
Among the key products, shrimp exports have been a standout, reaching over USD 1.6 billion, a 7% increase from last year. This growth is attributed to the efforts of Vietnamese shrimp businesses to improve production efficiency and quality, as well as their ability to meet strict standards for exports to the US and EU markets.
Vietnamese shrimp products are particularly well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for value-added seafood products. At international seafood exhibitions in the US and EU, Vietnamese value-added products have received special attention from customers.
Forecasting a Bright Future
Experts predict that the seafood industry will continue to thrive in the second half of the year, with a forecasted 15% increase in export turnover in the last six months of 2024. This will bring the total export value for the year to USD 10 billion, an increase of 12% from 2023.
