The Brazilian Military Brigade seized over BRL 2 million (USD 406,000) worth of shrimp without provenance in the southern region of the country. The operation unfolded following information received from the Civil Police.
Details of the Operation
The Military Brigade acted swiftly after receiving intelligence from the Civil Police, leading to the arrest of an individual involved in the smuggling operation. The operation took place in Três Passos, where law enforcement authorities intercepted a cargo truck. The driver, upon questioning, was unable to provide information about the cargo and lacked the necessary receipt for the transported goods.
Unveiling the Illegal Cargo
Upon closer inspection of the cargo, authorities discovered a startling revelation. The truck was loaded with approximately nine tons of shrimp packaged in boxes marked “Argentine Industry.” The merchandise lacked proper customs clearance, indicating a clear violation of trade regulations.
Seizure and Arrest
Faced with irrefutable evidence of illegal activities, the Military Brigade promptly seized both the vehicle and the illicit merchandise. The individual responsible for the smuggling operation was apprehended and subsequently taken into custody by the Federal Police of Santo Ângelo. The arrest occurred in flagrante delicto.
