Brunei’s shrimp paste industry has taken a step forward with the recent collaboration between the Fisheries Department and the National Standards Centre. The introduction of PBD 45:2023, Brunei’s new standard for shrimp paste, marks a milestone in enhancing local product quality and industry standards.
A Landmark Collaboration
The partnership between the Fisheries Department under the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) and the National Standards Centre (NSC) under the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE) has garnered attention for its potential impact on Brunei’s shrimp paste industry.
At a socialization event to commemorate the collaboration, stakeholders from various sectors convened to discuss the significance of PBD 45:2023. Acting Director of the Fisheries Department, Hajah Wanidawati binti Haji Tamat, highlighted the importance of these standards in ensuring product consistency, safety, and quality.
Industry Dialogue and Adoption
The socialization event served as a platform for dialogue among government bodies, educational institutions, and small-scale seafood processing companies. Through this collaborative approach, stakeholders aim to raise awareness about the new standards and encourage their adoption across the industry. By aligning with PBD 45:2023, local producers can enhance their products to meet international quality benchmarks, potentially expanding their market reach.
The introduction of standardized practices in the shrimp paste industry presents promising prospects for economic growth and diversification in Brunei.
