An initiative aimed at revitalizing the shrimp sector in the Tumaco region, Colombia, sees significant progress as key stakeholders convene for a workshop.
The Pacific Mission Project
In a bid to enhance the economic landscape of the Tumaco region, a workshop recently took place at the Pacific Business Development Center. Facilitated by the National Government’s Pacific Mission project, the workshop gathered representatives from the Tumaco Chamber of Commerce alongside local shrimp farmers to strategize and forge pivotal agreements aimed at fortifying this essential economic activity.
Integral to the discussions were plans for a comprehensive approach to the sector’s needs, including the rehabilitation of 1,300 hectares of water bodies designated for white shrimp farming. Additionally, ambitious plans for the construction of four processing plants, a ripening laboratory, and four larviculture plants underscore a significant investment geared towards modernizing and refining the production chain along the Pacific Coast of Nariño.
A Pledge of Commitment
Zayda Mosquera, President of the Tumaco Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the institution’s unwavering commitment to driving projects that propel the shrimp sector’s economy—a vital commercial engine for the region. Mosquera’s sentiments underscored the collaborative spirit necessary for the realization of impactful initiatives.
In a bid to foster synergy and optimize shrimp production and marketing, stakeholders deliberated on the establishment of a marketing company aimed at bolstering the business and organizational framework within Tumaco’s shrimp sector. This initiative holds the potential to benefit numerous families reliant on shrimp farming for their livelihoods.
A Shared Vision for Progress
Mosquera reiterated the importance of collaborative endeavors, emphasizing the Chamber’s role in supporting and promoting spaces conducive to the development of territorial productive chains. Such collective efforts, she noted, are instrumental in steering the sector towards positive outcomes.
Beyond streamlining production and marketing processes, the initiatives set forth pave the way for newfound opportunities in broader and more discerning markets. The agreements reached during the workshop herald a new era of growth and resilience for a sector poised to contribute significantly to the economic development of the region.
