Vietnam’s shrimp industry experienced significant growth in April, with a notable increase in exports to key international markets. According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), shrimp exports to the EU saw a remarkable 28% year-on-year rise, reaching a total value of USD 38 million.
Surge in EU Markets
The EU market demonstrated impressive demand for Vietnamese shrimp. Key single markets within the EU exhibited double-digit growth in shrimp imports. Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Denmark led the way with increases of 29%, 37%, 39%, and an astounding 88%, respectively. This surge reflects the growing popularity and competitive edge of Vietnamese shrimp in these regions.
From January to April, Vietnam maintained a steady performance in shrimp exports. The country earned USD 119 million from shrimp exports during this period, mirroring the same level of revenue achieved in the corresponding period of the previous year. This consistency underscores the resilience and stability of Vietnam’s shrimp industry.
Growth in the US Market
The United States also showed an uptick in demand for Vietnamese shrimp. In the first four months of the year, shrimp exports to the US reached USD 168 million, marking a 5% increase compared to the previous year. This growth highlights the sustained interest and market penetration of Vietnamese shrimp in the competitive US market.
The Chinese market, including Hong Kong, displayed robust growth, with shrimp exports rising by 41% to USD 192 million. This significant increase indicates a strong consumer demand and a favorable market environment for Vietnamese shrimp in this region.
Incremental Growth in South Korea
Shrimp exports to South Korea also experienced growth, albeit at a more modest pace. The export value edged up by 10% to USD 95 million during the same four-month period. This steady increase points to a solid and reliable market for Vietnamese shrimp in South Korea.
Amid these encouraging figures, industry experts emphasize the need for the Vietnamese shrimp sector to focus on value-added production and improved farming procedures. By enhancing productivity, reducing costs, and boosting competitiveness, the industry can aim for even higher export turnover in the future.
