Export Dynamics
Shrimp holds a significant position as Ecuador’s top non-oil export product. However, recent data shows a slight export deficit of 13% in value and 3% in volume during the initial two months of this year compared to the same period in 2023. Despite this, profits for January and February totaled USD 1.006 billion.
While China remains the primary market for Ecuadorian shrimp, there has been a notable decline in exports to the Asian giant. According to the Ecuadorian Federation of Exporters (Fedexpor), shipments to China decreased by 34% in value (USD 461 million) and 18% in volume during the first two months of the year.
