The Shrimp Estate Program in Central Kalimantan’s Sukamara Regency, Indonesia, is gearing up for a significant milestone, with Governor Sugianto Sabran expressing optimism about its potential impact on the marine and fisheries sector in the local area. The program, focused on developing a Vannamei Shrimp Farm Area, is seen as a synergistic bridge connecting various sectors for the advancement of this crucial industry.
As the program enters its final stages before the sowing of shrimp seeds or fry, the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government is actively involved in overseeing the process. Currently, the Shrimp Estate Kalteng is undergoing construction tests, electrical tests, and finishing stages, with plans to distribute Vaname shrimp fry once the testing phase is successfully completed.
At the heart of this initiative is the development of a 40.17-hectare pond area, a priority program for Central Kalimantan Province. The focus is on building modern shrimp pond clusters that adhere to a zero waste and sustainable concept. Governor Sugianto Sabran emphasizes that the success of this ambitious project hinges on the support and commitment of all stakeholders, including the central and provincial governments, Sukamara Regency Government, partner fish farming companies, banks, universities, and local fisheries business actors.
Darliansjah, the Head of the Central Kalimantan Maritime and Fisheries Service (Dislutkan), shed light on the unique funding approach for the construction of the shrimp pond cluster in Sungai Raja Village, Jelai District, Sukamara Regency. Notably, this is the only shrimp pond cluster in Indonesia built using the regional income and expenditure budget (APBD). The Kumai Brackish Water Aquaculture and Marine Aquaculture Technical Services Unit (UPT) (PBAPL) has taken on the role of the Regional Public Service Agency (BLUD) responsible for managing the Shrimp Estate. This involves collaboration with fish cultivator groups (pokdakan), BUMDes, youth groups, and other fisheries community groups.
