The Minister of Economic Development of Honduras, Fredis Cerrato, has announced that 26 containers filled with Honduran shrimp are currently detained at the Mexican border. This unprecedented situation has arisen due to the closure of the Mexican market to Honduran shrimp products. However, authorities are diligently working to resolve this issue promptly.
A Regional Issue, Not a National Crisis
Fredis Cerrato clarified that this predicament is localized to a specific area and does not affect the entire country’s shrimp industry. The source of the problem stems from a decision made by a federal judge in Sinaloa, Mexico. As a result, measures are being taken to address this matter swiftly and efficiently.
In light of the ongoing situation, Minister Cerrato has proposed a solution to expedite the resolution process. If the issue remains unresolved, he has expressed his readiness to travel alongside Foreign Minister Enrique Reina to meet with economy ministers in Mexico.
