White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) has been identified in Indian-imported shrimp destined for Saudi Arabia. Consequently, a temporary freeze has been imposed on the import of frozen shrimp and its associated products.
The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture directed the collection of samples from marine products, specifically shrimp transported through border crossings, as stated in an official announcement.
These investigations led to the discovery of WSSV, prompting the temporary prohibition of Indian shrimp imports into Saudi Arabia. The ban will remain in effect until Indian importers can furnish Saudi authorities with substantial evidence attesting to the absence of the virus and the safety of their imported goods.
