Visakhapatnam Port, India, has emerged as the driving force behind India’s seafood export industry. In the fiscal year 2024, the port processed 314,199 metric tons of seafood, valued at INR 179.83 billion (USD 2.15 billion).
National Rankings in Seafood Export
Following closely behind Visakhapatnam Port is the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), which handled 240,253 metric tons of seafood valued at INR 63.96 billion (USD 764.44 million). Cochin Port clinched the third spot with 181,400 metric tons valued at INR 61.20 billion (USD 733.86 million).
India’s seafood exports soared to a historic peak in FY24, totaling 1,781,602 metric tons valued at INR 605.24 billion (USD 7.24 billion).
Key Export Destinations
India’s marine products found their way into 132 countries, with the United States and China leading the pack as primary importers. Frozen shrimp maintained its stronghold as a leading export item. Visakhapatnam Port owes its top-ranking position to the thriving aquaculture sector in Andhra Pradesh, particularly in whiteleg shrimp production. Contributions from Odisha also significantly bolstered Visakhapatnam Port’s dominant role in the global seafood trade.
