With an economic value of up to IDR 13 billion (USD 832 thousand), shrimp production in West Java stands as a testament to its importance within the region’s economy. In 2021 alone, the production volume reached an impressive 178,199 tons, underlining its substantial contribution.
Among the various cities and regencies in West Java, four regions stand out prominently due to their significant production figures and high economic value derived from shrimp fisheries.
1. Indramayu Regency
Indramayu emerges as the powerhouse in shrimp production within West Java. With a production volume of 119,306 tons in 2021, the economic value generated from this thriving industry amounted to IDR 9 billion (USD 576 thousand).
2. Subang Regency
Subang proudly takes its place among the top shrimp producers in West Java. Boasting a production volume of 15,735 tons in 2021, this region contributed substantially to the economy, with a monetary value of IDR 1.57 billion (USD 101 thousand).
3. Tasikmalaya Regency
Tasikmalaya, another significant player in the shrimp fisheries sector, showcases a considerable contribution to West Java’s shrimp production. In 2021, the district recorded a production volume of 11,660 tons, amounting to an economic value of IDR 842.9 million (USD 54 thousand).
4. Karawang Regency
Karawang secures its position as one of the prominent shrimp producing areas in West Java. With a production volume of 10,423 tons in 2021, the economic value generated from this production stands at IDR 655.3 million (USD 42 thousand).
