In preparation for the Enactus national competition in Mexico, Tec Milenio Culiacán students presented their innovative “Tasty Shrimp” project to Sinaloan businessmen. This initiative repurposes discarded shrimp heads into a unique seasoning.
Transforming Waste into Flavor
Britany Yoselin Esparza explained that Tasty Shrimp originated in Dautillos, where discarded shrimp heads posed environmental risks. The student group turned this waste into a seasoning, suitable for various dishes like micheladas, ceviches, and meats. It’s a healthy option, free from added salt, trans fats, and sugars.
Alejandra Soto Ramos stated that the team seeks USD 100,000 to boost production to 20,000 units per month, aiming to supply major supermarkets and benefit other fishing communities in Sinaloa.
Preparing for National and International Stages
Coach Gabriel Alfaro shared the goal of winning the national competition and representing Mexico at the Enactus World Championship in Kazakhstan. The competition on June 24-25 requires thorough preparation, and feedback from experienced businessmen is helping the team refine their project.
