Ace Aquatec, a leader in aquaculture technology in the UK, has partnered with the Shrimp Welfare Project to promote humane stunning solutions for shrimp producers worldwide. This initiative aims to provide electrical stunning devices to 24 shrimp producers at no cost until the end of 2025.
Commitment to Welfare
To qualify for the program, producers must stun a minimum of 2,000 metric tons of shrimp annually and commit to improving welfare practices. The project has already facilitated access to stunning equipment for producers in Latin America and Southeast Asia.
“We’re proud to be collaborating with the Shrimp Welfare Project to make humane stunning solutions accessible to shrimp farmers everywhere,” said Tara McGregor-Woodhams, CSMO at Ace Aquatec. “With evidence of shrimps’ sentience, there’s an urgent need to revolutionize shrimp slaughter processes globally.”
Innovative Stunning Technology
Ace Aquatec’s Prawn Humane Stunner Universal (A-HSUTM) provides rapid, in-water stunning, rendering shrimp unconscious in less than a second and reducing stress through minimal handling.
“Humane slaughter is crucial for maintaining good welfare,” said Krzysztof Wojtas, head of programs at Shrimp Welfare Project. “This partnership is a significant step in advancing our mission, and we look forward to its positive impact on shrimp welfare globally.”
