The Norwegian shrimp industry has experienced remarkable growth in 2024. So far this year, 687 tonnes of fresh prawns have been sold, generating a substantial revenue of NOK 60.4 million (USD 5.65 million). This marks a significant increase compared to the same period last year, where 555 tonnes were sold for NOK 49.7 million (USD 4.65 million).
Weekly Trade Update
The Norwegian Raw Fish Association reports a positive trend in weekly trades as well. In the previous week, 38 tonnes of fresh prawns were sold for a total value of NOK 3.5 million (USD 327 thousand). This represents a slight increase from the preceding week, reflecting steady demand and favorable market conditions.
The Varangerfjord region stands out as the most productive area, contributing 27 tonnes to the total weekly trade. Lyngenfjorden follows with 6 tonnes, and Reisafjorden with 3 tonnes. These regions continue to be crucial to the overall supply of fresh prawns in Norway.
