Claudia Sheinbaum, a Mexican politician and candidate for Morena, has articulated a vision for the country’s economic future that emphasizes the integration of productive sectors, including the shrimp industry, with national research and scientific communities. According to Sheinbaum, this approach is essential for fostering technological innovation and stimulating economic growth.
Relocation and Technological Advancement
Sheinbaum stressed the importance of relocating the country’s productive sectors in a way that promotes deeper connections between industries and scientific research. She highlighted the shrimp industry as a key example, noting that investments should not only generate jobs but also enhance technological innovation through collaboration with national scientists.
Another critical issue addressed by Sheinbaum is water scarcity. She proposed that alongside major projects, the efficient use of water resources must be prioritized. This includes reviewing current water concessions to ensure better distribution. Efficient water use is particularly relevant for the shrimp industry, which relies heavily on this resource.
Protecting Mexican Production
Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of protecting Mexican production from foreign competition. Specifically, she mentioned the potential negative impact of shrimp imports from Ecuador on Mexico’s shrimp industry. Sheinbaum’s stance is clear: economic integration with the United States should be leveraged, but not at the expense of Mexico’s sovereignty and domestic industries.
“Economic integration with the United States is enormous and we must take advantage of it but at the same time we have to protect our sovereignty and the interests of Mexico. I said this recently with farmers and fishermen from the CNA or the CNA, not with the United States but Speaking for example of Ecuador, we are not interested in shrimp arriving from Ecuador because it will affect shrimp production in Mexico and in the same way with the United States with everything that exists in history and so on, we always have to to have a part in defending our sovereignty from both Mexican private initiative and therefore the development of our country and our sovereignty,” Sheinbaum stated.
