The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean has teamed up with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to launch a USD 620,000 project, supported by the FAO’s Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP)—revolutionizing shrimp and red snapper production in the region.
A Milestone for Sustainable Development
Scheduled to span from June 2024 to May 2026, the project marks a milestone in St. Kitts and Nevis’ pursuit of sustainable development.
“We are thrilled to partner with the FAO in launching this transformative initiative,” expressed the Honorable Samal Duggins, Minister of Agriculture. “By leveraging their support and expertise, we aim to unlock the full potential of our fisheries and agriculture sector, fostering resilience and prosperity for generations to come.”
Building Capacity and Promoting Best Practices
Over the next two years, stakeholders will collaborate closely to implement best practices in aquaculture and fisheries management. Training programs and capacity-building initiatives will play a crucial role in equipping local fishermen and farmers with the skills and knowledge needed to maximize productivity while minimizing environmental impact.
