In Katsurao, Japan, HANERU Co., Ltd. has officially inaugurated its third land-based whiteleg shrimp farm in the village. The inauguration ceremony, held on the 14th at Nogawa, Katsurao Village, signifies the company’s commitment to pioneering shrimp farming in the region, with the aim of establishing it as a distinctive village specialty.
Expansion and Development Efforts
The newly completed land-based aquaculture farm, situated within the Yunohira Industrial Park, comprises three facilities, Fields 1 to 3, covering an expansive floor space of approximately 2,570 square meters. Having commenced its shrimp farming endeavors in the village back in 2022, HANERU has progressively expanded its operations, leveraging extensive breeding experiments to refine its techniques and processes.
While the project is currently in its demonstration stage, the farm has already begun supplying farmed shrimp at events both within and outside the village. With ambitions for further growth, the company aims to produce 160,000 shrimp annually by the fiscal year 2024.
Vision for the Future
During the opening ceremony, President Noriyoshi Matsunobu expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We’re encouraged by hearing people say that our food is delicious at events and other gatherings. We want this business to bring many people to Katsurao.”
A tour of the facility was also conducted during the ceremony, providing attendees with insight into the cultivation process. President Matsunobu and his team elucidated on the utilization of Katsurao’s groundwater for shrimp cultivation, highlighting the company’s dedication to sustainable practices and the production of high-quality seafood.
