In Southeast Asia’s tech startup arena, eFishery’s 2023 entry into the unicorn club as the first aquaculture-based unicorn signaled new possibilities. This milestone inspired ventures like Tepbac, founded in 2012 by Duy Phong Tran, whose family boasts a quarter-century legacy in Bac Lieu’s shrimp farming.
From Informational Hub to Technological Pioneer
Originally serving as an advisory platform for sustainable shrimp farming practices, Tepbac swiftly transitioned under Tran’s leadership. Today, it offers the Farmext management software and IoT devices, enhancing farm efficiency through automated feeding and water quality monitoring.
Expanding beyond software solutions, Tepbac operates an ecommerce platform for farm supplies and a network of aquaculture labs. Despite modest funding of USD 2.3 million, plans to secure USD 10-20 million aim to accelerate growth.
Industry Challenges and Tepbac’s Response
Vietnam’s shrimp farming sector faces considerable threats from disease outbreaks and climate change. Tepbac’s technology addresses these challenges, offering a path to sustainable and resilient aquaculture practices.
