Vietnam has seen significant growth in its agro-forestry-fishery exports, with shrimp playing a notable role. From January to May, the country exported an estimated USD 24.14 billion worth of these products, marking a 21% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
Impressive Trade Surplus
The sector’s trade surplus reached approximately USD 6.53 billion, a remarkable year-on-year surge of 64.5%. The fishery sector, which includes shrimp, posted a 3.6% increase in revenue, totaling USD 3.5 billion.
Vietnam’s shrimp exports have benefitted from rising demand across various regions. Shipments to Asia increased by 17.5%, America by 23.1%, Europe by 39.4%, Africa by 26.1%, and Oceania by 24.8%. The US, China, and Japan remain the top three importers.
Focus on Export Products
In response to the growing demand, the MARD has directed authorities and enterprises to closely monitor the output of key export products. To further bolster shrimp exports, the MARD is assisting localities and businesses in negotiations to overcome technical barriers.
